Actionline
1.6
Java enabled cross-platform web authoring.
Agile
32 bit HTML editor with features such as syntax coloring, user-configurable
interface and built-in HTML standards.Supports DHTML.
Arachnophilia
3.9
Windows 95 / 98/ NT. Free Software.
Beyond Press 3.0
More a QuarxExpress plug-in than dedicated software, but probably worth checking
out for those interested in converting their Quarx pages to web pages with the minimum
of trouble. All the Extensis goodies are to be found at this URL.
Cinnamon
WebMaster Suite 1.3.1 $5 shareware
Composer
Part of Netscape's Communicator - now up to version 4.5. A bit lumpy but for free
software it's hard to complain.
Corel
Web Designer Demo
... iffy.
Cyberstudio 3.1.1 (GoLive ) Trial version
Lots of positive reviews in the press.
Dreamweaver1.2
From Macromedia. HTML text editor, support for DHTML. Features include
absolute positioning, cascading style sheets, a DHTML animation timeline, an extensible
JavaScript behavior library, visual table and frame design and a repeating element
library.Expect a hideous learning curve for lots of expenditure, just the way some
techies seem to love it. One of the companies, like Cyberstudio pushing the envelope
to incorporate scripting as a standard issue part of html authoring.Call me difficult,
but personally I'd rather hit myself over the head good and hard with a used laptop,
than use software this cluttered and complex.
Drumbeat 2.01
Claims to be the simplest and most intuitive way to publish databases
on the web. Updates databases on the fly. Recommends a 200MHz
Pentium, 60MB free disk space, and 64MB RAM (32 min)... consider yourself warned.
Freeway 2.0
for 68040 or PPC
Free trail version available.
Great company (even though they forgot to send me the promised review copy of version
2.0) Has struggled a bit to compete in an already overcrowded marketplace. Styled
on DTP lines it offers unrestricted page layout -WYSIWYG, DHTML, frames - et al.
Probably good for those of you unfamiliar with html but familiar with QuarkXpress.
They get around the text limitations of html by offering a relatively simple way
to convert text to gif files, fortunately IMAPS are supported which gets you around
the hyperlink problem this presents, but expect byte size for your page to become
a headache though.
Front Page
Also Frontpage98 for
the PC
Microsoft's rather unloved (and unlovable) offering.
Globetrotter
1.1.1
Shipped in 1996 and hasn't seen an upgrade since ...i.e.superceded by it's
rivals.
Gomer 2.5.3
Text based HTML editing program for Windows from Stoopid Software (!)
Hippie 98 version
3.0
Windows HTML Editor with built-in Microsoft Internet Explorer browser view!

HotDog Professional5 WebmasterSuite
"Say sausages..."

HotMetalPRO
5.0
Net Objects Fusion

Page Mill 3.0

***Still one of the main players and a very servicable

Page Spinner
2.0.1
****...non WYSIWYG but recommended.
Simply 3D
Splash
Recomended as fun for Newbies.
Storyserver 3.0

VisualPage 1.1.1 Version
2.0
*****

The Mac version

The PC version two,
30 day trial - fully functioning demo version is out - apparently as intuitive and
non techie as it's glorious Mac cousin.
Visual Cafe 2.5 from Symantec might also suit.
WebCompanion.
More properly this is a plugin for File Maker Pro 4.0, however if you want to
publish your data bases on the web almost instantly this might be just the thing
to investigate. I believe a free beta for File
Maker Pro 4.0 is available too.
WebEdit Pro 3.0
Code-based editor that makes hand-coding HTML
almost effortless." USA Today
