Your Safety
Your security is our first consideration. There are a number of ways purchases can be made completely safely over the Internet using secure electronic transactions. When you use your credit card over our web site using our secure form to order CDs, you can rest assured that no one will be able to see the card details in transit. The information is automatically encrypted for you using sophisticated but transparent encryption technology. Your details are not retained by us, nor are they used for any marketing or research whatever. You will not receive any SPAM whatever, as a result of making this purchase. Furthermore you can change your mind at any stage of the transaction.
VAT? (The UK's purchase tax)
Applicable only if you live in the UK or EU. If you live in the EU then you must also pay VAT i.e. the vat inclusive price of £9.99 per unit plus p&p.
The members of the EU, or European Union, are:
Austria
Belgium
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Denmark
Estonia
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Ireland
Italy
Latvia
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Malta
Poland
Portugal
Slovakia
Slovenia
Spain
Sweden
The Netherlands
United Kingdom
If you live outside the EU, you'll pay only £8.50 per record - as VAT is not charged for exports outside the EU.
How long to deliver ?
Unless you live somewhere liable to unusually high shipping charges, CDs are sent by air mail and therefore normally arrive in less than 7 days - sometimes within 24 hours. Unlike the larger online stores we always hold stock.
Payment
Which cards do we accept? We accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Eurocard, Access, Switch, Delta and edc Maestro Cards. Your card is debited only after the items are sent, and your credit card details are not retained. An emailed confirmation of your order will be sent to you first.
You can buy a record by placing your order online with a credit card using my secure certificated URL: https://secure.knopfler.com
To place an order
Click the CDs you want in the secure credit card form provided. Add only £2.50 postage. Additional CDs are always postage free no matter where you order from. All transctions and quotes are in UK pounds sterling.
However for a very approximate rule of thumb rates per CD at time of writing are :
US $15 = £ 8.50
Euro 14 = £ 9.99
For today's rate you could take a look at this currency converter:
What does "remastered" mean.
Not a lot. This is simply there to reassure you that the record has been "remastered" but not "remixed". Anyone who has heard unwanted dance samples added to their treasured sixties recordings when they buy a new "best of" CD will appreciate that distinction. i.e. these recordings sound exactly as the original mix intended. So please note that if you already have these recordings on CD there is no point whatsoever in buying the "remastered" version, but if you had these recordings on vinyl you'll like them every bit as much and probably more on CD.
Can I Email an order without using the secure online service?
It is recommended that you don't send credit card details via email without encrypting them - i.e. use the recommended secure ordering system provided - however if you have the requisite software you can encrypt your email using PGP
Security aspects of sending credit card information such as that
provided by Netscape can be found here
http://home.netscape.com/info/security-doc.html
for those interested in researching the subject.
Are there any different methods I can use you haven't mentioned here?
Yes. Several and I'm always open to suggestions if it looks likely
that there might be a demand to pay by another method.
Why is the secure form not working?
In case of difficulty, please ensure before you attempt to enter
a secure web site that you have SSL enabled in your browser settings. This can be
achieved by changing the following Netscape settings, Options, Security Preferences,
and checking the SSL check boxes and then clicking okay. In Internet Explorer, View,
Internet Options, Advanced tab, then check the Enable SSL boxes.
You might also need to ensure that your browser is capable of accepting the World
Wide Thawte Certificate. In your Netscape settings try, Options, Security Preferences,
Site Certificates and check whether the Thawte Certificate is present. Internet explorer
should accept the Thawte Certificate anyway.
If you are sending from a company network computer, there may
be a firewall in place preventing access. The only solution I know in that predicament
is to wait until you get home.
I'm getting a message saying the site is insecure.
Why?
Some older browsers will throw up a warning message which is
actually spurious and can be safely ignored (goes against common sense though doesn't
it? for more details see BBC News Article ). The site is in fact secure
- but older browsers are unable to detect the certificate as valid.
To fix your browser you need to go to

Still bemused bewildered and befuddled?
Who could blame you.
